wedding wednesday: cake

I love pinterest.
Especially the wedding/event boards.
Maybe a little too much.
Which brings me to this week's wedding wednesday topic: cake

According to my quick Wikipedia research, the tradition of a wedding cake dates back to the Roman Empire. Thankfully, the tradition has changed a little since then {no more breaking the cake over the brides head!} but it can still be
really fun part of a wedding ceremony!

Since our wedding is somewhat nontraditional, we wont be doing a classic cake cutting ceremony at the luau reception but we will still have a small cake waiting for us in our room that was included in our package{along with a bottle of champagne!}

Since I wont be going through the whole picking a cake process, I have to do the next best thing which is drool over other people's beautiful cakes! This is where pinterest comes in. Here are some of my favorites:
Which one would you choose? {did Rebecca Black's song just get stuck in your head? Mine too...}

good ol' abe

I know this is totally weird, but I have a history crush on Abe Lincoln.
He has always been my favorite...
he was smart...
and cute too!

right?
oh...and I like the things he said
like this:

"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."

emelia adele

I'm an auntie :)
Amber, Alex's sister, had her baby yesterday. I was SO bummed that I had to work and wasn't able to make it for her actual birthday but Alex and I went to Santa Barbara today so I could meet her.
She is so precious.
Little Emmy is very lucky to have Amber and Erik as her parents. I wish the three of them nothing but a life full of love and happiness.

wedding wednesday: location

Our wedding date is fast approaching. And with just 70 days left, not an hour goes by where I'm not thinking about something wedding related {well, maybe when I'm sleeping}

Last November, Alex proposed on top of a mountain {see: this post} and before we had even descended completely, we had pretty much decided on a destination wedding.

We threw around a couple of ideas and ultimately decided on Maui.

I cant wait to be here:

Drinking one of these:

I can't wait to marry him:

And to celebrate here:

Then dance the night away here:

It's going to be great :)

diy

I really love taking old, somewhat unattractive furniture and making it new again.

Some of my favorite projects include this desk:
And this dresser:
This weekend I finally got around to a project that I have been meaning to do for 2 years now. Embarrassing? Totally.

I'm not even sure why it took me so long to get around to it...it just did. BUT now it's done and ready to be shown {excuse the terrible "before" picture}

Now I need to figure out what to do with all those shoes...

iced coffee

There is nothing like a good cup of coffee to get you going in the morning. And on mornings like today, when the thermometer reads 100 degrees before you even have a chance to step outside, iced coffee is the way to go.

Until today I had never made iced coffee at home. I found this recipe on Pinterest recently and knew I had to try it. It's a pretty involved process but the end result is so worth it.

The best part is I have more for tomorrow :)

What's your favorite summertime drink?

new beginnings

This is my first post on my new blog {insert happy dance here}

I'm happy with the way it turned out, and even happier that my brother and I were able to do it ourselves!

I loaded the old posts from my other blog since they are still relevant to my life.

Welcome {and enjoy!}
